In three generations from the mechanical engineering
workshop to the international company group.


1905   Six owners and staff members from four mechanical engineering companiers join on July 8th to form the "Vereinigte Mechanische Werkstätten Mayer & Cie., Tailfingen".
1918   First export order: Circular loopwheel machines to Rumania.
1935   Construction of the first circular knitting machine.
1939   Series production of circular knitting machines begins, alongside the existing circular loopwheel machine production.
1965   Peter Mayer enters the General Management after completing his degree.
1968   The 10.000th circular knitting machine leaves the Tailfingen factory - an OVJA 36.
1972   Rainer Mayer joins the company as second Managing Director.
1980   Mayer & Cie. supplies its 25.000th circular knitting machines in its 75th jubilee year.
1987   Relanit enters series production. A decisive step is made towards a single jersey technology for the future.
1998   Over 50,000 circular knitting machines have been supplied to more than 100 countries around the world. For the first time, annual production exceeds the 2,000 machine mark. Of these, 1,800 are produced in the Group Headquarters in Albstadt.
1999   Mayer & Cie. is the first anywhere in the world to make use of Perunal, a totally new material, in the production of segments. Perunal has previously been used primarily in the aviation and aerospace industries.
With a good 20% share of the market (number of circular knitting machines), Mayer & Cie. exhibits as market leader at the ITMA '99 in Paris, presenting a whole range of new developments. New features included the first electronic machine with fully electronic individual needle selection in the dial and cylinder cam, and automatic dial cam setting using robot technology.
The MCT Group turnover amounts to approximately 360 million EURO, with circular knitting machines accounting for appr. 50%.
2002   The future generation of Mayer & Cie. begins with Marcus Mayer joining the company.
