Since the beginning of 2004, an additional service support point has been in operation in Foshan in the South of China. From this vantage point, the company has been able to step up its customer support services in Guang-dong and Fujian, both bastions of the textile industry, as well as other Southern Chinese provinces.
As the result of a training project supported predominantly by Mayer & Cie., this new service support point in Foshan has taken on an added significance.
In cooperation with the Guangdong Institute of Textile Technology and the German Development Finance Agency DEG, a PPP (Public Private Partnership) project has been launched with the aim of developing a training center for skilled knitting technicians. This PPP project, set to run over a period of 2 years, will be implemented in Foshan City and is intended to provide participants with vocational training as qualified knitting production technicians.
Mayer & Cie. has already completed two similar projects in India, and will be acting in the capacity of industrial partner in this venture. A total of 4 teaching staff will receive comprehensive theoretical and practical training and instruction over an 8 week period in the MSL Training Center at the Mayer & Cie. Headquarters in Germany. As circular knitting specialists, they will then go on to train around 60 participants as qualified knitting production specialists over the course of the next 2 years.
Mayer & Cie. will also be making 2 circular knitting machines available to the Guangdong Institute of Textile Technology for practical training purposes.
To ensure that the project is capable of being continued independently by the Institute after completion of the PPP project, Mayer & Cie. will continue to support its Chinese partners by
providing both machines and also know-how transfer. This policy is already being successfully practiced by Mayer & Cie. in support of the existing two PPP projects in India.
The objective of this type of PPP initiative funded jointly by the German Government and industry is to lay the foundations for optimum utilization of German high-tech products by putting in place adequately skilled and trained operating staff. This helps both promote appreciation of the cost-to-performance ratio offered by German technology, and at the same time guarantees optimum machine utilization, so helping users achieve the fastest possible return on investment. Capital invested in a Mayer & Cie. machine pays dividends: If the machine’s capability is utilized to the full, it will generate far higher profits for its owner than comparable low-cost investment alternatives.
